"Promoting Education and Safety through Building Codes since 1956"

From The Desk of the President

Summer is almost over and schools are gearing up to reopen the new academic year.  Before you know it the leaves will be changing and frost will be appearing in the morning as we start the workday.  Football, burning leaves, and the grandeur of fall foliage are just part of the ambiance of fall just around the corner.

We plan to start the fall educational programs by hosting OBOA on September 10, 2010 at Tangier’s Restaurant, followed by continued education and a code consistency round-table discussion.  Details are on our web site.

We have survived the worst of the Great Recession and hopefully most of us are climbing out of the abyss that it plunged our departments into.  In Medina County we have seen a substantial increase in permit and building activity and appeared to have weathered the storm.  It has been with a cost though of budget reductions and layoffs of good personnel.   We know that most of the jurisdictions have had similar cutbacks.

Thank you to all who participated in the summer ‘hump day’ educational programs held in Massillon at Santangelo’s.  We hope everyone benefited from the courses offered.

It is our sincere hope that the economy will continue to recover without further setbacks and that the balance of this year will be consistently busy for all of our member jurisdictions.  Enjoy the rest of the summer, Labor Day festivities and we plan to see you in September.
