PROGRAM OUTLINE
Residential Fire Sprinklers for Fire and Building Officials
Cooperation between building and fire officials is required to ensure improved fire and life safety from homes to high-rises. Residential fire sprinklers are a major part of the needed comprehensive fire and life safety package in the built environment. Following the inclusion in the model national codes, residential fire sprinklers, while not a new technology in the protection of lives and properties, require a greater understanding by fire and building officials across the country, at least in areas not accustomed to dealing with them. The purpose of this program is to increase awareness of the role residential fire sprinklers play in community fire protection and the broad scoped technical issues building and fire officials may face. The objectives are as follows:
- Understand a brief history of fire sprinklers and their application
- Review a community that requires fire sprinklers in all new construction
- Discuss the concept of residential fire sprinklers and the importance of codes in reference to life safety in the home and community
- Create awareness to the issues faced with adoption and implementation
This session is intended to be interactive for the goal of increased awareness and understanding for everyone who attends.
