Five-County Building Officials Association

"Promoting Education and Safety through Building Codes since 1956"

History

The Five County Building Officials Association (FBOA) dates back to the mid 1950's, but it wasn't always known by that name.

Founded by Ohio building inspectors who saw the need for uniform codes for Summit, Medina, and Portage counties, it began as the Tri-County Building Officials Association (TBOA). The founders fulfilled the need for uniformity by working together with building contractors to produce the Tri-County Building Code. In an effort to promote statewide code uniformity, TBOA was also instrumental in helping to form the Ohio Building Officials Association (OBOA).

After officially adding two counties, Wayne and Stark, TBOA changed its’ name, started a regional monthly newsletter (FBOA Focus), provided seminars, and amassed more than 150 members from fourteen different counties. FBOA is now one of nine regional chapters of OBOA. In April 1989, FBOA became BOCA charter chapter 49 (now ICC).
